The PN532 NFC Evolution V1 is a long-range variant of the PN532 NFC module, featuring a large external PCB antenna (102mm × 160mm) and an on-board amplifier. It achieves reading distances of 12–15 cm on Mifare tags — roughly double the range of the standard PN532 V4. If your application requires reading at longer distances and ISO 14443A-only operation is acceptable, the Evolution V1 is the right choice.
Evolution V1 vs PN532 V4 — Performance Comparison
| Metric | PN532 Evolution V1 | PN532 V4 |
|---|---|---|
| Reading distance (Mifare, ISO 14443A) | 12–15 cm | 6–8 cm |
| Reading distance (SRT512, ISO 14443B) | 0 cm (not supported by this antenna) | 2–4 cm |
| Antenna size | 102mm × 160mm (external) | On-board, compact |
| Main board size | 52mm × 34mm | 40mm × 26mm |
| Interfaces | I2C, SPI, HSU | I2C, SPI, HSU |
Note: The Evolution V1 antenna is optimized for ISO 14443A. ISO 14443B tags (e.g., SRT512) are not readable with this antenna configuration.
Who This Module Is For
- Applications requiring reading distances beyond 8 cm on Mifare or ISO 14443A tags
- Kiosk or desktop reader designs where a larger antenna area is acceptable
- Engineers building NFC systems where only ISO 14443A protocol support is needed
Core Advantages
- 12–15 cm reading range on standard Mifare cards — best range among PN532-based ELECHOUSE modules
- On-board signal amplifier for extended antenna drive
- Same I2C/SPI/HSU interface as PN532 V4 — fully software-compatible
- Fully hardware and software compatible with PN532 V4 and V3

Quick Start
The Evolution V1 is software-compatible with the PN532 V4. Use the same ELECHOUSE PN532 Arduino library and examples:
- Set the interface jumper (I2C, SPI, or HSU)
- Connect the large antenna via the IPEX connector
- Wire the main board to your microcontroller
- Use the ELECHOUSE PN532 Arduino Library — same as V4
Refer to the PN532 V3 Manual for full software documentation (software is identical).
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why can’t it read ISO 14443B tags?
- The large PCB antenna is optimized for ISO 14443A frequencies. The antenna matching does not support ISO 14443B tags such as SRT512. If you need ISO 14443B support, use the PN532 V4 or PN5321 MINI instead.
- Is the software the same as PN532 V4?
- Yes. The Evolution V1 uses the same PN532 chip and the same library. All V4 code runs without modification.
- Can I use a different antenna cable?
- Yes. The antenna connector is IPEX. Make sure to use a 50-ohm impedance cable.
