NFC Modules for Access Control Applications
Access control systems use NFC or RFID to verify identity and grant entry. Common implementations include door locks, turnstiles, attendance terminals, and employee badge readers. ELECHOUSE modules support the card types and protocols commonly used in these applications.
Supported Card / Tag Standards
| Card Type | Standard | Common Use | Supported By |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIFARE Classic 1K / 4K | ISO 14443A | Door fobs, employee badges | PN532, PN7160, ST25R3916 |
| MIFARE DESFire EV1 / EV2 | ISO 14443A | Secure enterprise access | PN532, PN7160, ST25R3916 |
| NTAG213 / 215 / 216 | ISO 14443A | NFC stickers, wristbands | PN532, PN7160, ST25R3916 |
| ISO 15693 / NFC-V | ISO 15693 | Industrial / long-range | PN7160, ST25R3916 |
Recommended Modules
PN532 V4 — Entry-Level Access Control
Suitable for simple door lock or attendance systems using MIFARE Classic or NTAG cards. Wide library support for Arduino and ESP32 makes rapid prototyping straightforward.
PN7160 — Mid-Range Access Control
Supports DESFire EV2, ISO 15693, and ISO 18092. A better choice when using modern high-security credential formats or when ISO 15693 industrial tags are needed.
ST25R3916 — High-Performance Access Control
The ST25R3916 offers the best RF sensitivity and highest read speed of ELECHOUSE’s NFC lineup. Suitable for high-traffic turnstiles or multi-card antenna designs where reliable reads at distance are important.
Platform Compatibility
- Arduino / AVR: PN532 V4 with ELECHOUSE library
- ESP32: PN532 V4 or PN7160 via SPI / I2C
- Raspberry Pi / Linux: PN532 V4 (UART/SPI) or PN7160 (SPI/I2C)
- Custom embedded (STM32, NXP i.MX): PN7160 or ST25R3916
